Data on a Touch Pad

Optimizing Health Data in Alberta

All decisions in health service are predicated on the capture and analysis of health information. This requires access to comprehensive quality data across all domains of service, including patient care, research, population health, management, and innovation.

When health data is incomplete or unavailable, the risk of errors in decision making increases, as does the potential to cause to harm to patients, populations, and the health care system.

To ensure optimal health system function, it is crucial that all health programs and services have access to the health data they require to foster quality care and optimize the health and wellbeing of Canadians.
